At age 6 I attended Saturday classes for kids at the Baltimore Museum of Art. I had the privilege of wondering past Van Gough, Matisse, Gaughan, Picasso, Monet, Manet and many more great artists. I touched Van Gough’s Sunflower painting when I was too young to know better and overwhelmed by how far each stroke stood from the canvas.
At age 8 I started attending MD Institute Saturday classes for kids. My Dad took me to those classes and he always drove down Gay Street on the way. Those Girlie clubs are such a part of my visual memory.
I mostly hated school but art and English classes got me through it. I went on to major in Art at University of Maryland, switching to Art Education in my Junior year when my father pushed me to do something more practical. I don’t regret that because I loved teaching.
I have used my skills to teach, illustrate, be a web designer and make fine art. My teaching experience was in Elementary School, High School and College in Pennsylvania. I had a New York rep who got me illustration work for several of the big New York Publishers. I did all things related to Web, advertising and social media for Kaiser Permenante, Fireman’s Fund, several start ups and two car dealerships. I produced art for ABC Sport’s Monday Night Football computer game. My fine art has been in galleries in Baltimore, DC, Georgetown, and San Francisco.
At age 75 I now paint for my own pleasure, play in the woods with my friends, walk my dog, and watch my grand children grow.
